Can I make an inspection checklist with pass/fail and a comment for each thing that failed?
Yes. Every checklist item in myInspections is marked "No issues" (a pass) or "Requires attention" (a fail), and every item has a comment section for anything that failed. You can load pictures too.
Looking for an inspection app that does pass/fail with a comment for each fail? Someone asked us this on their trial, and it's a good one. If you're moving from a paper or spreadsheet checklist, pass/fail with comments is probably how you work today. The short answer is yes.
How does pass/fail work in myInspections?
Every item on a checklist has 2 options:
- No issues is the pass
- Requires attention is the fail
You work through each area of the property (Kitchen, Bathroom, Bedroom 1) item by item. Leave an area's checklist empty and you assess it as "General condition" instead, with the same 2 options.
Is there a comment section for each thing that failed?
Yes. Every item has its own notes, so write what's wrong right next to it: "Tap drips when closed", "Smoke alarm missing", "Carpet stained by the window". In the report, each area shows its checklist with every item's status and your comment beside it.
Am I able to load pictures in it?
Yes. Take photos and videos as you go, or add ones already on your phone. They sit with the area in the report, alongside its checklist and notes, so the evidence is right there next to the fail.
What if I need more than pass/fail?
Not everything is a pass or a fail. Sometimes you need to record what's there: the heating type, the rooms where a smoke alarm was tested, or a meter reading. Each item on a checklist has a type, so you choose how it's answered:
- Condition: No issues or Requires attention. This is your pass/fail.
- Pick one: one option from a list you write, like "Electric", "Gas", or "Heat pump".
- Pick many: every option from your list that applies, like the fixtures in a bathroom.
- Text: a written answer, like a meter reading or a serial number.
Mix them in one checklist. Every item still takes a comment. A Pick or Text answer shows on the report once it's filled in, and one left blank stays off it.
How do I set up my own pass/fail checklist?
Build it once as an inspection template, and every inspection runs on it.
- Start from a ready-made template in our template library, or build your own.
- Add an area for each room or task.
- Add the points to check, like "Walls free of damage" or "Heating type", and choose how each one is answered.
- Run it on your next inspection.
Templates can be flexible, too. Pass over any area a property doesn't have, and it stays off the report.
