How to import your properties from a spreadsheet
Bring your whole portfolio across at once when your properties already live somewhere else (a property management system export, an Excel list, a CRM, and more). Nothing is added until you confirm.
Prepare your file
We accept CSV, Excel (.xlsx), and JSON files. There's no template to follow: give your spreadsheet a header row naming each column, and put one property per row.
- Address columns. We build each property from its location: a unit, apartment, or lot number, then the street, then the suburb, city, or postcode. Split across columns or in one, either works.
- Everything else is ignored. Owner, tenant, contact, rent, dates, notes, and similar columns don't end up in the property.
- No address? We fall back to the most identifying name column (a customer, business, building, or site name).
Each import takes a file up to 5 MB, with up to 5,000 rows and 250,000 characters. For more, split it into several files.
Upload it
- Sign in on the web. Head to myinspections.com and sign in.
- Open Properties. You'll find it in the sidebar. Select New.
- Select Bulk Import. It's at the top right of the page.
- Choose your file. The upload starts as soon as you pick it.
No file? Select Want to copy & paste your properties instead?, paste your list with each property on a new line, and select Import.
Check the format
For a spreadsheet with several columns, we work out the columns that make up each property and shows you a sample from across your file under Does this look right? Format we used shows the columns it combined, and Columns in file crosses out the ones it left out.
- Looks right? Select Yes, looks good and we apply the same format to every row.
- Not quite? Select No, format it differently, then describe the format you want under Tell us how it should look. Click a column name to paste it in, or pick one of the examples. You can also ask us to add text a column is missing (a postcode, a city, and more). Select Re-import to see a new sample.
A single-column file, a pasted list, or a JSON file that isn't a simple list skips this step and goes straight to review.
Review and import
- Fix anything that's off. Click any address to edit it, or select the × beside it to drop it.
- Select Import. The button shows how many properties you're adding.
Your new properties appear in Properties straight away. A property already in your account, archived ones included, is skipped, and a property listed twice in your file is imported once.
Each imported property takes the schedule from your New property default settings in Settings. See how to schedule inspections. To share them out to your team, see how to assign properties.
Keep in mind
- Anyone on your team can import properties.
- We delete your uploaded file and its import 3 months after you upload it. Your imported properties stay.
- Rather we did it for you? Send your list to hello@myinspections.com and we'll import it.
